Google, our gracious overlords, has decided to expand its empire and will be purchasing Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Motorola Mobility is the smartphone division of Motorola, responsible for all of the “Droid” phones that Verizon has.
From what has been said, this will not affect Android at all. Motorola Mobility will still act as a licensee that Google will run separately, Android will remain an open platform for all developers. The acquisition is set to take affect in the beginning of 2012.
Google and Motorola will make a LOT of money off of this, great for them. That being said, Google… if you are reading, can you please get rid of MotoBlur please? That’s the main reason I stay a dedicated HTC fan. Blur sucks. A lot.
