Sony launching Playstation Network Play program

Earlier today, Sony announced the new Playstation Network Play program for you hardcore PS3 gamers out there.  What this is, is a way to get free in-game bonuses, and a free game by pre-ordering certain PSN games.  The way it works is this:

  • Pre-order Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition and you will get character GILL at the start of the game, instead of having to beat the game with everyone to unlock him.  You also get a Street Fighter theme.  The game will cost $15
  • Pre-order The Baconing and you will get an extra co-op character, Roesha.  You will also get a PSN Play theme.  The game will cost $15.
  • Pre-order Bloodrayne: The Betrayal, and you get a Bloodrayne item for your avatar in PS Home, as well as a different PSN Play theme.  Also $15.
  • Pre-order Renegade Ops and you will get 2 new vehicles, and some extra special weapons… as well as a PSN Play theme.  And yes, another $15.
  • Pre-order and buy all 4, and you will get Payday: The Heist for free… as well as a PSN Play theme.  If you don’t go this route, Payday: The Heist will be $20 on its own when it launches.
Well… I wasn’t really looking forward to really any of those except for Payday: The Heist… so I guess I’m out.
