It seems even advertising is getting on the smartphone action by creating this advertising billboard from ScreenReach. This system allows for outside advertising on suitably huge screens to take input from smartphones. You simply download their Screach app, run it using a code from the screen and your steering actions directly relate to the motions your car makes on the screen. This will be installed in a shopping centre down the road from my good self tomorrow (Westfield Shopping Centre on the 12th).
This is all part of an advertising sting from swiftcover.com (a car insurance firm), you collect their branded tokens on screen to win. The reward? Being able to ooh and aah and take part in the next generation of advertising as it’s first released. Sneakily though, you will be able to link up your Facebook profile with the advert to display your picture as you play. Sounds like a cool added feature, but in reality this will just be a way of the company being able to keep tabs on you and your actions in relation to their advertising.
The sign will be iOs, Android and Blackberry friendly, which is quite an achievement in itself as it’s rare that all 3 devices are able to communicate in the same field as each other in real time. You will be given 60 seconds to drive along a mock-up of Route 66 and set the best scores. It sounds fun, I’d imagine this will result in a large number of people taking a look at it and giving it a try. I just wonder whether it’ll be enough to keep interest over time as we become more accustomed to such stings.
