Long story short, I was driving to work the other day, and out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw the word “Zombie.” I took a second look, and saw a place I simply NEEDED to see for myself. Zombie hunters, Zombie fans, Zombie enthusiasts, survivalists, and Kinemortophobics alike… you now have a new home in Las Vegas. That place is the Zombie Apocalypse Store, located a few blocks from the strip in Las Vegas.
Upon entering, for a nerd like myself, you feel like… you are in the right place. There is weaponry, survival food, first aid kits, and shooting targets all over the place. To your direct right, would be a space for different types of jerky (I don’t know why, but jerky is sold in a TON of places in Vegas…) and with that, their Books and DVDs for sale.
Now, although I do love the store, here is where I will get a little critical. Aside from the copies of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (always a good read,) where is the Zombie Survival Guide? Where is World War Z? Where is the Zombie Combat Manual? Also missing would be some standard survival guides. And for DVDs, they have the remake of Dawn of the Dead… you remember, the crappy one. Where is the original Romero masterpiece? I mean, I love Shaun of the Dead as much as the next guy (which is EVERY guy,) but to not have the original Romero movies in there… something isn’t right. Moving along, they also have a theater room set up. It was playing Fido when I stopped by. I love that movie. And I love the design of the theater as well.
And as ANY Zombie survival store should have, you will find your share of tools and weaponry to fend off the undead masses. There are rifles, swords, knives, clubs, machetes, axes, stunguns and pepper spray. Remember, in a Zombie apocalypse, raiders and other uninfected humans can be a threat too (see Dawn of the Dead if needed.) There is also a small supply of ammo, if you are running dry. The only thing I felt was missing was the standard crowbar. With the guns and ammo there is a whole corner dedicated to getting you combat-ready with targets… both standard paper… and EXPLOSIVE.
And lastly, we have survival gear. The Zombie Apocalypse Store has a great selection of items one would need if it was time to bug-out and hit the wilderness to survive. You will have backpacks, survival packs, water purifiers, first-aid supplies, handsaws, flares, emergency beacons, and lots and lots of MREs. If anyone wants to know where you can get a giant bucket of 200 “dry food mix” packets… I know of a place.
This store is clearly for the zombie enthusiast, but they also offer a great selection of survival and wilderness gear… you know… for those “outdoors guys” who don’t play video games all day… (not that there’s anything wrong with that…) You will find anything you need to arm up for the eventual Zombie uprising, and food and gear to keep you alive for those long periods of surviving on your own. If you live in Las Vegas, or are planning a trip sometime soon, make sure you stop by, and as always… tell them The Nerd Junkies sent you.
